EPIC MOMENT
   The epic moment is the usually brief time in the development of a civilization when the forces of chaos and stability are both evident and the founders of the culture rise up to subdue chaos. For the ancient Greeks, it was the period of the Trojan War celebrated by Homer. For the Romans, it was the period of the conquest of Italy celebrated by Virgil. For the United States, it was the Western moment celebrated by cinema Westerns and popular Western fiction.
